Philip Wolff

Born in Landstuhl, Germany, Philip lived in and traveled throughout Europe before moving to America in his early teens. At the age of 20 Philip began his professional hair career as an apprentice at a Toni & Guy concept salon in Maryland.

With zero professional experience or training, it was his unique look, ambitious personality and upbeat attitude that caught the attention of salon bosses.

For the next year, Philip established himself as a talented hair stylist and, thirsty for new challenges, he moved to PR at Partners, a UK-based company with 15 locations in the DC area. As a salon stylist, Philip dedicated himself to the company's full ongoing education program and within a year he was on the education team, teaching hair cutting to newcomers and developing his own advanced skills.

Philip went on to serve as Artistic Director of Education, where he continued to teach advanced hair cutting at all 15 locations.

In 2004, Philip took the ultimate risk and moved to LA. He sacrificed his hard-earned clientele, a Who’s Who of Washington DC, and started from scratch in the LA beauty industry.

Embracing the major lifestyle change, Philip moved from salon to salon, picking up work anywhere he could. It was a drastic change from his stable career in DC and an experience that humbled Philip, and although he questioned his choice to move to LA he never doubted his talent or his passion for cutting.

Philip finally landed a deal with Privé Salon to work for nine months in Seoul, Korea at the W Hotel, where he cut hair for a number of celebrities, models and high-end clientele, including the Samsung family, and worked on a number of runway shows, television shows and the incredibly popular MTV Asia network.

Following his success in Asia, Philip returned to LA as a stylist at Privé’s Beverly Hills salon where he slowly built up a celebrity clientele including Kim Kardashian, who remains a client to this day. There he worked as an artistic educator for Prive Products for the next five years.

In 2010, Philip left Privé to open a boutique Beverly Hills salon with Susan Henry, a co-worker of Philip's at Privé. Shades, the only green hair salon in LA is where Philip established himself as the go-to-guy for master hair cutting in Los Angeles.

Philip enjoys creating everything from short, super edgy cuts to sexy, long classic looks and everything in between. While many hairdressers specialize in either male or female cuts, Philip doesn’t restrict himself to one gender and enjoys it all.

In 2017, Philip rocked the social media world with his unique style of haircutting.

Philip Wolff

He found Instagram was a fun way of sharing his creative edge with the world and used it to express some of the more exceptional styles he had always had the desire to portray. His work picked up admiration immediately and his Instagram following grew like wildfire. His passion for the work he does shines bright and inspires his followers from all of over the world and in 2017, with the Win of a Behind the Chair Award, he was asked by many hair brands to join on as an educator and ambassador. He began traveling, teaching technical cutting and sharing styling demonstrations for the likes of: Behind The Chair, Brazilian Bond Builder, Bellami Hair, Matrix. He even partnered with Australian based, Zen Master Scissors, to personal hand craft his very own, one of a kind, “Wolff Shear” an all around mater cutting scissor, fully designed by Philip himself with the help of a Japanese Master Samurai Swordsman.

The ability to connect with people around the world through social media has had a tremendous impact of Philips career. He works hard to provide his followers with new and exciting videos of the work he does in his studio and on the road, showcasing his skill as a versatile cutter of hair and his unique personal style of music and fashion. Philip is breaking that mold and redefining what it is to be a hairdresser.

When he isn’t working for and traveling with the brands He loves, He can be found in Beverly Hills in the private studio suite he shares with his hair coloring brother Alfredo Lewis, testing new products, trying new looks, creating content for his social media and servicing his loyal clientele. He shares a special partnership and brotherhood with his suite mate, Alfredo Lewis and along with sharing a space, clients and creative ideas, together they travel the world bringing education and the heart of hairdressing back to the artists through their independent education world tours.
